Why Is Discord a Target for Scammers?

Discord is widely used by NFT projects, marketplaces, and the broader Cardano & Web3 community for discussions, updates, and support. Unfortunately, scammers take advantage of this by impersonating JPG Store team members, popular figures in the space, and even fake support agents to trick users into giving up assets or sensitive information.

Understanding how these scams work and implementing best security practices can help you stay protected.

Common Scams on Discord and How to Avoid Them

1. Fake JPG Store Support Messages & Scam Links

Scammers often send fake messages pretending to be JPG Store support staff. These messages may claim:

  • You need to "verify your wallet" by clicking a link.

  • JPG Store is experiencing technical issues and they need you to "resubmit" your transaction.

  • They can "recover your lost NFTs or ADA" if you provide wallet access.

How to Protect Yourself:

JPG Store will NEVER DM you first for support—if someone messages you claiming to be JPG Store staff, it’s a scam.
Never click unknown links—always go to JPG Store's official website directly.
Only use official support channels—reach out via the JPG Store Help Center.

2. Fake Escrow Trades & Impersonation Scams

Scammers may pretend to be trusted community members, moderators, or JPG Store staff and offer to “safely hold assets” while facilitating a trade.

🔴 Warning Signs of a Scam Escrow Offer:
❌ The scammer claims to be a “trusted middleman” for a trade.
❌ They ask you to send ADA or NFTs first before releasing the trade.
❌ They pressure you with urgency or say it’s a “limited-time deal.”

How to Protect Yourself:

JPG Store staff will NEVER do escrow trades.
Use JPG Store’s official marketplace for safe buying and selling.
Verify identities—even if a username looks correct, scammers use similar names with subtle differences.

3. Fake Error Messages & “JPG Store is Down” Scams

Scammers create fake error messages or fake JPG Store announcements, claiming that:

  • Transactions are failing and require “manual verification.”

  • You need to send ADA to a “support wallet” to complete your order.

  • JPG Store has an issue, and only an admin can process your trade manually.

How to Protect Yourself:

Check JPG Store’s official channels for real updates.
Never send ADA or NFTs to a “support wallet.”
Always verify messages from official team members before acting.

How to Secure Your Discord Account & Stay Safe

To minimize scam attempts, enable Discord’s privacy and security settings:

1. Disable Direct Messages from Non-Friends

1️⃣ Go to User Settings > Content & Social
2️⃣ Under Content > Direct Messages from others, select "Block"

🔒 Why? This prevents scammers from DM’ing you through shared servers.

2. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

1️⃣ Go to User Settings > My Account
2️⃣ Click Enable Two-Factor Authentication
3️⃣ Follow the instructions to set up 2FA with Google Authenticator or Authy

🔒 Why? This adds an extra layer of security in case someone tries to hack your account.

3. Be Cautious of Discord Bots Sending You Links

  • NEVER click on links from random bots—many phishing scams are disguised as giveaways.

  • JPG Store does not use Discord bots or Direct Messages (DM) to send support messages.

What Should You Do If You Spot a Scam?

🔹 Report it to a JPG Store moderator or admin in the Discord server.
🔹 Warn others in the community to prevent them from falling for it.
🔹 Block and report the scammer’s account on Discord.

JPG Store’s Official Safety Policy

🛑 JPG Store staff will NEVER:
❌ Ask for your seed phrase or private keys.
❌ Request access to your device via screen-sharing or remote control.
❌ Offer to process escrow trades or middleman transactions.
❌ Send you private support messages outside of official channels.

If someone claims to be from JPG Store and asks for any of the above, they are a scammer.

Utilizing the Discord Safety Center

Discord provides official resources to help users stay safe while using the platform. The Discord Safety Center is a great place to learn about security settings, privacy controls, and how to report suspicious activity. We recommend reviewing their guidelines to further enhance your security and protect yourself from scams.
